Animating shadow monsters and trippy visions in "They Keys" music video
An exciting collaboration with directors Roos Mattaar and Heather Colbert. We worked as 2D animators in the stop motion hybrid music video for the US rock band, Walk The Moon.
We loved the directors’ approach in mixing fantasy visions (2D animation) with real elements (stop motion) to portray the character’s struggle as she fights her own demons and breaks free from darkness. We joined the team during post-production, where we created the 2D animation for these vision sequences.
We then edited the final vision sequences to the chorus beat, combining our animations with live action footage of “liquid light” art, previously shot by the team. We also animated shadow monsters to be composited over the stop motion animation.
We had such a great time being part of this project, as we are both fond of hybrid media. Not to mention our huge admiration for Roos’ and Heather’s captivating work!
